Instagram could be set to announce an upgrade that could be interesting for businesses who advertise on the platform. The Facebook-owned platform is planning to allow businesses to create carousel ad units featuring video, sources tell Reshift Media.

Carousels are ad units that allow users to create a horizontal slideshow of between 3 and 5 images that viewers can swipe through for a more engaging experience. Video versions of carousel ads have already been available on Facebook since 2015 but this is the first time that Instagram users have access to the same kind of video advertising option.

Our clients are finding great engagement with carousel ads, which are more visually interesting than typical ad units and often lead to increased amounts of people interacting with the brand. Meanwhile, video ads continue to be one of the most engaging ad units on both Facebook and Instagram. By combining these two ad units, Instagram will continue to be a highly effective advertising platform for businesses.

Instagram isn’t the only platform expanding its carousel ad unit offering. Marketing Land reports that Twitter is testing a new carousel unit that will allow advertisers to include up to 20 tweets, including ones sourced from other users.
